All the products on our website conform to the highest sustainability standards as assessed by our Sustainability Index, a process that you can read all about here . Asides from passing our test, individual products may have additional information or certificates to indicate that it is recyclable, fair trade, cruelty-free, or has a low carbon footprint.

When it comes to sustainability, we look for certifications at every stage of the value chain – from suppliers, manufacturing, and distribution – to ensure they adhere to environmental laws and sustainability standards. To be precise, we rely only on primary certificates from third parties, those that are independent from their “clients” (the companies they certify) and rely on outside expertise.

IMPAKTER was born first as a news publication covering environmental and social justice issues. It has since expanded to include a Sustainability Index , a startup hub, and now the ECO marketplace of certified sustainable products. 

The idea of IMPAKTER ECO was born in 2014, with the realization that there was no e-commerce platform with a structured approach to delivering verified eco products to consumers. The first step was therefore to create a methodology to identify sustainable products and brands that would also function as a practical guide for consumers in their everyday lives. 

This led to the development over the next two years of the Sustainability Index in an innovation lab at the University of Berkeley, which was used by the team to create a database of sustainable brands. 

In 2021, through hard work, meticulous research, and an unwavering belief in the importance of sustainability as an essential goal to save the planet, IMPAKTER ECO became a reality. 

Through the Sustainability Index, we are able to offer customers verified, certified products that are sustainable, eco-friendly and cruelty-free, and which contribute to the attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for a more just and equitable world by 2030.

Our planet is not only our home, but also our provider. But like every carer, our planet needs to be looked after as well in order to stay healthy and happy.
